What is it?

The Meldezettel is a document used to register your place of residence with the local registration office (Meldebehörde). It serves as proof of your address and is necessary for various administrative processes, such as opening a bank account, registering for healthcare, or receiving mail.

What do you need to do?

Via a registration office:
– Before moving: Plan ahead and look which is the local registration office for your new area. You can find it using your postal code here
– Make an appointment: Most registration offices require an appointment, you can usually ask for one by email or phone.
– Fill Out the Form: Complete the Meldezettel form with accurate information and obtain the necessary signature from your accommodation provider (e.g. landlord).
– Visit the Registration Office: Within three days of moving, visit the local registration office with your completed Meldezettel and supporting documents.
– Keep Records: Make sure to keep a copy of the submitted Meldezettel and any confirmation you receive for your records.

Online (Only using ID Austria or EU login):
– Access the Online Platform: Go to the official Austrian government website to access the online submission platform.
– Authentication: You will need to authenticate yourself using ID Austria or EU Login. Make sure you have your login credentials ready.
– Fill out and submit the Form: Complete the Meldezettel form online with all the required details.
– Keep Records: Make sure to keep a copy of the submitted Meldezettel and any confirmation you receive for your records.
