Districts of Vienna
Home Before moving to Vienna Districts of Vienna
Vienna is divided into 23 districts. The first district being the city center and home to many of the city’s historical attractions, like St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Hofburg Palace. Districts 2-9 wrap around the 1st and are home to many of the city’s museums. The 6th, 7th, and 8th districts are more residential and popular with young locals, and there always seems to be something fun happening.
Interestingly, you can tell which district any Viennese location is in by looking at its four-number postcode. The first digit identifies the region, with a 1 indicating Vienna, and the two following numbers indicate the district, so for the first district the postcode is 1010.
Vienna’s most intriguing spots are spread throughout the city, so it’s worth exploring beyond the city center. Each district has its own individual character and flavor, and there are many neighbourhoods to visit.
